Capt Ross McIness on holiday, Joe McDonald and Keir Heinrich unavailable. Callan Phillips has now given up on football.
Played 4-4-2, used all 14 players available. The fact we scored 6 was well overshadowed by the 3 goals we lost in the first 45 mins.
A factor may have been a very strong wind against us coupled with a physical Claremont side made up of 93 and 92 born players.
We went 0-1 down when some comical defending saw us fail to clear and concede a goal very similar to the 1st we conceded v Airdrie. We had made chances when Jess and Hay were put through a couple of times only to see the shots go over or the GK save. We did equilise though when a McKay throw fell for Jess and he scored from 6 yards out. 1-1.
Almost immediately the away side went 1-2 up when their speedy winger got inside our left back and cut back for the finish. Again we equilised when Mark Byrne forced the ball over after their GK failed to hold.
Up until now it was very scrappy for us through bad defending and panic passing. We did though go 3-2 up when a Claremont defender handled and McKenzie finished the pen well........surprise surprise though we then conceded a pen when McKay tangled with the away striker....3-3.
First half was very disappointing re goals conceded. We did play against a very strong wind but ultimately indecisions cost us.
2nd half was better with Monty, McKenzie and Currie starting to control the game and setting up chances. Hay's pace was getting us in behind and it was Capt for the day Hay who made it 4-3 with a neat finish after being sent clear. McKay was stopping the threat from the right, McGregor was winning challenges and playing the ball through the m/f, Monty and Fraz were beginning to link up whilst the back 4 looked more settled.
It was Fraz Currie who got our 5th goal when he finished with a neat header after another break with neat passes prior to this. ( Jess had a terriffic goal line clearance prior to the breakaway) Hay got the 6th from his determination and pace, again finishing well.
Claremont made it 6-4 with a 20 yarder, a fine goal.
However some played well whilst others did not. Needs to be better. Disappointed in goals conceded. MOM Hay for his goals, his runs and holding the ball up. Currie, McKenzie, Burns and Monty had fine games.
