In his playing days Arthur was often compared with George Best. People often said, "compared to George, Arthur is hopeless." His career ended abruptly upon the highly inconvenient introduction of rules into the game. A great competitior, it was often said that Arthur didn't know the meaning of the word 'lose'. Other words he didn't know seem to know the meaning of included 'foul' and 'stop hitting the ref over the head with the corner flag."
