Young Falkirk plunge to defeat against Callander Thistle at the unusually-shaped, but historicaly significant, Camp Place park.

Young Falkirk launched themselves into this game at 10.40 am on a bright, sunny and surprisingly warm morning. Unfortunately, Callender had launched themselves into the game at 10 am and at the interval were a goal up with YF looking a bedraggled bunch that had yet to put in a serious challenge or have decent attempt at goal apart from a Blair Carroll header from a corner.

Things were to change after the interval and YF drew level after a 18 yeard drive from sub Sam McEwan went straight through the home keeer who may have been dozing after his relaxing first half. Thereafter it was a much different story than the firsthalf with YF pressing the attack and coming close when a Sam header from a superb Jack Dillon cross flashed wide of the far post with the keeper stranded. If this game had been decided on corner kicks YF would havewon easily but it was decided by a late goal for the home team after a breakaway down the YF left saw the striker cut inside the box and from a tight angle hit a low drive past keeper Stuart.

Whether it was ring rust, too many late nights or the fact that YF were without some regulars, the plain fact was that YF were not up for this game and spent the first half allowing their opponents the freedom of the park. All in all it was a very disappointing result against a team that frankly wanted to win more, whose hard work put YF to shame and more than made up for a lack of ability in certain areas. Although YF are a technically gifted side, there is no substitute for effort and that was distinctly lacking in the first thirty-five minutes. All in all a draw might have been a fairer result but this was a game YF should have won on the basisi of recent performances.

Picking the MOTM was again difficult, but for a different reason than usual with no-one particularly shining out. That said, Blair once again played a captain's part and deserves yet another MOTM award.
