Young Falkirk kicked off o this splendid Autumn evening and and within the first fifteen seconds a cracking through ball from Bradley McCabe put Andrew Grimshaw through on goal but the Alloa keeper, instantly proved that best gifts come in small packages. Leaving his line early, he came out to meet the ball and elegantly collected it in hand and for the rest of the game proved very useful indeed.
Falkirk dominated the play throughout much of the first half and for the first time in weeks took the coaches tactics to heart using all the pitch, the width from Kyle Haldane and Bradley proving very effective. The collective at the back with Stewart Hepburn at right
back, Scott Walker and Craig Lenathen centre and Scott Lenathen at left back proved supremely capable. Nothing it seemed could get through.
Wave after wave of strong play knocked Alloa for six, all that was missing was a goal. This was to come twenty-five mins in when a typical Andrew G. run with his sticky feet forced a
desperate tackle from the Alloa centre half, PENALTY. Andrew in the heat of the moment was forced to stand down, as the coaches called for Jack Dillon to step up. Jack was to prove the correct choice as he smashed the ball into the roof of the net. One
nil. Blair Carroll’s commanding ariel and ground strength in his new midfield role, coupled with Ewan’s desire to win everything that fell within ten feet of him proved too much for the Alloa middle men but things were to change in the second half.
The visitors' late arrival and the danger of failing light forced the game into two periods of 30 minutes and the second period saw a different Alloa team indeed. Starting for the first 10 minutes, Falkirk kept the same formation and started well. Again proving that width opens doors, the same movement and use of the whole pitch forced play deep into
Alloa territory and on another night perhaps a few goals could have been nicked. Changes made to the team formation saw Kyle and Ewan come off, with Tyler Mason and Andrew McIntyre coming on. Shortly after, Andrew G and Jack came off, with Sam McEwan
and Darren Hale coming on. Darren playing on the left mid, Sam, and Tyler up front and it was Tyler who made an instant impact with a typical Rhino style charge across the 18 yard box. At last the player he can be turned up and his strong ariel presence also
was a delight to see.
Alloa continued to get a stronger grasp of the game and on the 45 minute mark were awarded a free kick on the left, 22 yards out. A quick lob into the penalty spot saw
Falkirk’s defence all look to one another, WHO WAS GOING TO CLEAR IT!. Sadly no one and again Falkirk were to lose a soft goal as no one took the responsibility or even shouted for the ball...
"What must we do to get these boys to talk” was heard being said at the side lines (or words to that effect). The game moved from end to end and Alloa did have the better
of the last ten minutes. 1 – 1 would seem a fair result, but after the domination from Falkirk’s first half performance it is 3 points they should have bagged.
Positives - great mid field determination which opened up the width for us. A solid back four performance and especially well done to Stuart given his family's loss only this week. Our natural width with the options of Kyle, Tyler and Bradley give us a real threat....oh....and Willies absence!
Negatives – Losing our way in the 2nd half after such a commanding first half. We need to finish as we started. Why can’t we speak to one another!
Summary – We were a shout away from winning the game, we need our defence to start to speak to each other.
MOTM for a great display out wide: Bradley McCabe.
